Getting Started

victoriatraces VictoriaTraces stores traces only. Metrics, logs and profiles require other destinations. For a self-hosted instance, use http://victoria-traces:10428/insert/opentelemetry/v1/traces. Odigos appends /insert/opentelemetry/v1/traces to root URLs; a complete ingestion URL, including a proxy path prefix, is preserved. See the VictoriaTraces OTLP guide. For VictoriaMetrics Cloud, create a Traces deployment and copy its full OTLP/HTTP ingestion endpoint. Select bearer authentication and provide a write access token from that deployment’s Access tokens tab. Cloud trace deployments may require organization-level beta enablement; see the Cloud guide. Self-hosted VictoriaTraces can run without authentication behind a trusted network. For a protected deployment, configure an authentication proxy such as vmauth, then select basic or bearer to match the proxy. Store the selected password or token in the destination Secret. HTTPS enables certificate verification using system roots or the optional CA certificate. Use HTTPS when sending credentials outside a trusted network. Optional AccountID and ProjectID headers select a tenant; ingestion and querying must use the same tenant. Keep credentials out of the endpoint URL and custom headers. Gzip is enabled by default, and none is available for proxies that do not accept it. Odigos uses the existing OTLP/HTTP exporter queue and retry behavior. Retryable transport failures are retried; permanent failures and OTLP partial-success rejections are logged. Rejected spans in a partial-success response are not retried, as required by OTLP. Verify ingestion in VictoriaTraces’ trace explorer, Jaeger UI or Grafana, including the expected service.name and trace IDs; an accepted HTTP request alone does not prove storage. VictoriaTraces applies a 30-second query latency offset by default, so newly ingested traces may take at least that long to appear in the explorer.

Configuring Destination Fields

✅ Traces ❌ Metrics ❌ Logs ❌ Profiles
  • VICTORIA_TRACES_ENDPOINT string : OTLP HTTP Traces Endpoint. Full trace ingestion URL. For a root URL, /insert/opentelemetry/v1/traces is appended. For Cloud or an authenticated proxy, copy its complete ingestion URL. HTTPS enables verified TLS.
    • This field is required
    • Example: http://victoria-traces:10428/insert/opentelemetry/v1/traces
  • VICTORIA_TRACES_AUTH string : Authentication. Use bearer for VictoriaMetrics Cloud access tokens or basic for an authenticated proxy such as vmauth.
    • This field is optional and defaults to none
  • VICTORIA_TRACES_TOKEN string : Access Token. Bearer token with permission to write traces. Required when bearer authentication is selected.
    • This field is optional
  • OTLP_HTTP_BASIC_AUTH_USERNAME string : Basic Auth Username. Required when basic authentication is selected.
    • This field is optional
  • OTLP_HTTP_BASIC_AUTH_PASSWORD string : Basic Auth Password. Password for the authenticated proxy. Required when basic authentication is selected.
    • This field is optional
  • OTLP_HTTP_CA_PEM string : Certificate Authority. Optional CA certificate in PEM format for HTTPS. Uses system root CAs when empty.
    • This field is optional
    • Example: -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----
  • OTLP_HTTP_COMPRESSION string : Compression.
    • This field is optional and defaults to gzip
  • OTLP_HTTP_HEADERS { key: string; value: string; }[] : Tenant Headers. Optional AccountID and ProjectID tenant headers or other non-secret ingestion headers. Use the authentication fields for credentials.
    • This field is optional
VictoriaTraces supports traces only. Self-hosted HTTP listens on port 10428 by default. Cloud deployments may require beta access; use the complete ingestion endpoint and a write access token from the Cloud console. Credentials must be stored in the destination Secret. Use HTTPS when sending credentials outside a trusted network.

Adding Destination to Odigos

There are two primary methods for configuring destinations in Odigos:
Using the UI
1
Use the Odigos CLI to access the UI
2
Click on Add Destination, select VictoriaTraces and follow the on-screen instructions
Using Kubernetes manifests
1
Save the YAML below to a file (e.g. victoriatraces.yaml)
2
Apply the YAML using kubectl
